Bank of America: How they steal from you
Bank of America is currently in a class auction lawsuit for changing the order of how transactions post to your account in order to increase fees. I suggest everyone search Google for this lawsuit and join.
My personal story starts when I had $20 in a checking account I rarely used. I learned my lesson with the Bank of Fees and have moved my primary banking to a new bank. I kept the old Bank of America checking account active with alittle money in there just incase, which looking back was still a mistake. See my main bank closed branches near me and now Bank of America is closer, so I decided for the 1st time in 5 months to use this account.
So I have $20 in the account, I purchased 3 items totaling about $17. Two of the transactions were less than $5. All 3 items were pending for 2 full days, transactions made before 10am on Monday, pending all Monday and all Tuesday, one still pending Wednesday. On Monday night I had a postive available balance when I went to bed, the next morning I was -$47 somehow. I checked my account and I had 2 pending transactions for $20 a piece ($40 total) So my account appeared to have overdrawn $7 for 1 transaction, but I knew this wasnt possible. I dont use this account and used it 3 times for an amount under my available balance.
I immediately called and was told I couldnt make a claim against the 2 $20 until they posted to the account, at this point they are still pending. While the balance was 47 in the hole, I transfered $50 in. As soon as I did, I was hit with three $35 fees totaling $105, bringing my account to -$102. I mean as soon as I did it…I check the balance, paid it, checked the balance and theres 3 fees. So I called again and was told to call back tomorrow to see if they items post or not. Well I never authorized the charges, pending or not. I had $40 held from my available balance whether or not they posted. These $20 items were listed 1st, making the other 3 items all negative. All would of cleared fine without these showing up.
Today, as expected the charges disapeared and the only record of them existing is a statement I printed yesterday while it happened. My account was $-62 today. The -$102 minus $40 coming off = -$62. So I call again today….
Did you know that when you login to online banking, the available balance it shows isnt really your available balance? Its funny how it works, but basically you have to check your available balance history on the right hand side of your account. Well, they didnt only charge me $20, they held $26 twice…which today is still showing as a hold. Also, items paid for on the 27th post before things from the 31st. The fees are deducted 1st, to make other things bounce. So even though I can login, see I have money and use the debit card, because of unauthorized transactions, and hold of them more than they even say in my available balance, I get hit with 3 fees.
This means anytime, any company Banks included can hit your account with a hold, you wont even see and might not even be authorized and they’ll collect fees on anything youve done. To me this is simple. I had the money, made 3 purchases, something showed up yesterday I didnt authorized, yet it was counted before my good ones. I was charged $105 for spending $17 after they reordered the account. I also now have 2 pending fees as well. Meaning Im being charged 5 fees now, for making 3 purchases for less than $20 when I had the money to do so.
How can it be a company can charge and hold $26, yet its pending as $20? Why doesnt this $6 reflect my available balance? According to the way they reordered this, I had -$20, when I made the 3 purchases. Whyd my card get accepted? This is complete bullshit and they need to be stopped. I think Bank of America is the most criminal of all organizations in this country. Never use them for anything, close your accounts and tell everyone you know that they screw over their customers.
