Concrete lab indicted on fraud charges

A laboratory hired to verify the strength of concrete at major New York City building projects has been indicted on charges that it faked test results.

Manhattan prosecutors announced Wednesday that Stallone Testing Labs, of Port Chester, N.Y., and its lab director have been indicted on fraud charges.

They said the company wasn’t actually performing all the tests required by city building codes.

A lawyer for the company denied the allegations. Attorney Luigi DeMaio said prosecutors have misinterpreted what is required under the law because they aren’t familiar with the industry.

The company is the second concrete lab to face charges in the investigation.

Its projects included the new transit hub and memorial at the World Trade Center.
