All is not right with the red-light cameras

(Ooops. I’m correcting an error below. The fine on the red-light camera tickets is $100, no points on the license.)

Here’s an epilogue to our post of a couple days ago about Kansas City’s red light cameras nabbing motorists for not coming to a complete stop before making a right-hand turn.

Kansas City police took a mini-count and found that 60 of 200 citations issued were for right-hand turns. That’s 30 percent — a good number.

Beware the right-on-red.

Also, a story in today’s KC Star talks about changes coming because of the large number of people challenging citations, often successfully.

I can surely see a lawyer arguing that police officers who review the video can’t testify in court about what actually happened at the scene.

But I’m curious about what these lawyers are charging to take these cases. Does it make sense to pay a lawyer fee to get out of a $100 citation?

Just wondering.
